To Boil Dal:
1: pigeon peas dal 6 tbsp (Toor dal or Arhar Dal)
2: split Bengal dal 6 tbsp (chana dal)
3: red lentil dal 6 tbsp (masoor dal)
4: white lentil dal 6 tbsp (mash dal)
5: yellow split dal 6 tbsp (moong dal)
6: salt 2 tsp
7: turmeric 1 tsp
8: water 8 cups
For Masala:
1: oil 1/2 cup
2: cumin seeds 2 tsp
3: bay leaves 1
4: mustard seeds 1 tsp
5: black cardamom 2
6: star anise 2
7: green cardamom 4
8: cloves 4
9: green chilli 4 (chopped)
10: asafoetida 1/4 tsp
11: ginger & garlic paste 2 tbsp
12: onions 2 medium (finely chopped)
13: red chilli powder 2 tsp
14: coriander powder 2 tsp
15: tomatoes 4 large (grind)
16: water 1/2 cup
17: fresh coriander handful
18: bullet green chilli 3
1: soak the dal over night, wash and place it in pressure cooker add salt, turmeric, water and boil for 25 minutes in the pressure cooker, then keep aside.(can boil it in a normal pot as well).
2: heat oil add all dry spices, ginger & garlic paste and fry on high flame for 1 minute.
3: add the onions and fry on high flame till the onions get golden.
4: then add red chilli powder, coriander powder, tomatoes, water mix well and cook on medium flame till the oil seperates.
5: now add the boiled dal mix well and i added 1/2 tsp salt extra (taste for salt if less you can add more to your choice).
6: simmer on low flame for 12 minutes.
7: add fresh coriander, green chilli mix.
8: serve hot with roti, naan, paratha.
