For Lentils:
1. 500g split chickpeas (soaked for 4 hours)
2. 200g red lentils (soaked for 4 hours)
3. 150g yellow split lentils (soaked for 4 hours)
4. 1 tsp turmeric
5. 1 & 1/2 liter water
Meat Curry:
1. 1/3 cup oil
2. 1 tsp cumin seeds
3. 2 medium onions (grind)
4. 2 tbsp ginger & garlic paste
5. 1 kg mutton chops
6. 4 large tomatoes (grind)
7. 2 tsp red chilli powder
8. 1 tsp turmeric
9. 2 tsp salt
10. 2 tsp coriander powder
11. 1 tsp cumin powder
12. 3 tbsp mixed pickle
13. 1 tbsp dry fenugreek leaves
Tempering:
1. 1/3 cup oil
2. 1 tsp cumin seeds
3. 6 garlic cloves (sliced)
4. 6 green chillies
5. 6 button red chillies
6. 1 tsp paprika powder
7. Handful of coriander leaves
1. In a large pot, add washed & soaked lentils, turmeric, water. Mix, cover, and cook on low to medium flame until lentils are tender.
2. Heat oil, add cumin seeds, onion. Fry on high flame until it changes colour, then add ginger & garlic paste. Fry for 4 to 5 minutes.
3. Add the chops and cook on high flame until it changes colour.
4. Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, turmeric, salt, coriander powder, cumin powder. Mix and cook on high flame for 5 minutes.
5. For pressure cooker users, add 1 cup of water, lock the cooker, and cook for 25 to 30 minutes. In a basic pot, add 2 glasses of water and cook on low to medium flame until the meat is tender.
6. Add mixed pickle, dry fenugreek leaves to the cooked lentils. Mix, cover, and simmer for 6 minutes.
7. In a frying pan, add oil, cumin, garlic, green chilli, red chilli. Fry on high flame until the garlic gets light golden. Then add paprika powder, coriander leaves.
8. Transfer the mixture to the dal and mix well.
9. Serve hot with rice, roti, naan, or paratha. Enjoy your Achari Dal Gosht!
